Right to Rent

  • Posted On: 1 Sep 2021

From 1st February 2016, The Immigration Act 2014 requires Agents and landlords across England to check that prospective tenants have the right to rent before letting a property.

Before entering into a tenancy agreement, we are required to complete one of the following checks and may need to carry out further checks during your tenancy.

British or Irish Citizens

We will conduct a manual Right to Rent check.

Acceptable documents include:

▪️A British or Irish Passport (current or expired)

OR

▪️A UK Birth Certificate AND a valid UK driving licence (both documents must be provided)

For a full list of acceptable documents, click here.

Non-British or Irish Citizens

We will conduct a Right to Rent check using one of the following methods:

▪️A government share code, which you can obtain via Right to Rent Share Code

▪️Your original immigration documents

▪️A Home Office online Right to Rent check (required if you have an outstanding application, appeal, or if the Home Office is holding your documents). Please inform us if this applies when submitting your application.
